DJ Khaled. Up until 2 weeks ago, I had no idea who this guy is. If you are my age, you probably don’t either. Net-net, he is a prolific hip-hop producer and I guess, motivational speaker. The younger generation likes him and according to this video, he likes to buy lots of things.
Let’s have some fun today. In the spirit of breaking down videos, I had to break down the DJ Khaled “Inspirational Speech”. Seriously, I have watched it 50+ times now. It’s fun yet painful…funny and sad and confusing as hell. In this post, I will not explain what this video is…just let it sink in. And you still may not know what it is….As Scott Albro said to me: “I can’t stop thinking about this dude but on the other hand, I have no idea what he is saying.” That’s the thing, I agree but I may be his number one fan.
And another one, and another one, and another one….Teardown is below the video.
“You smart. You very smart. We da best.”
Craig: Ok, I’m smart and we are the best. Got it.
You a genius.
Craig: Ok,really smart. I like where this is headed. Not sure how “we da best” got in there, but this is interesting.
I appreciate you. You loyal.
Craig: He appreciates me. He’s right, I am loyal to him.
I changed a lot. You can too.
Craig: Good update.
When, when, when. No matter what. Them doors that was closed, I ripped the doors off and took the hinges off and when I took the hinges off, I put the hinges in the f#$@ing boy’s hands. Yeah in the f#$@ing boy’s hands. You know I took the whole door off and the hinges and I put it in the f#$@ boy’s hands. You can put the hinges in the hands too.
Craig: What the hell. If I can translate: There is a a bunch of closed doors. He ripped off the hinges and then gave them to someone. Oh wait, he took the whole door down. Good news, he can give you the hinges too.
There is sales-centric anecdote: We do talk about “knocking down walls” when it comes to great sales leaders or even great individual contributors. It’s a value we never write on paper – the sales leader should be willing to identify the “doors” that prohibit his/her reps from hitting their number and then knock them down. If you talk to sales reps, the good ones judge their leaders by their willingness to “fight” for them. Still not sure why you would give them the hinges after…but anyway.
Never give up. Never surrender. Put this money in your savings account. Buy your mama a house. Buy your whole family houses.
Craig: You are in sales so this is at least related to what you do. I mean, don’t buy your whole family houses. They can fend for themselves.
As for surrender, that is an interesting paradox in sales. We want sales reps who will never give up or surrender on their number. That is for sure. Relentless. However, we also want sales reps to “surrender” on bad deals. It’s hard for them to let go, but there are deals a fresh set of eyes would tell them: don’t spend time on this. Surrender goes both ways in sales.
This next part of the video is when you doing push ups or you doing sit ups, whatever. Let’s get it. Another one. Another one. Another one. Another one. Another one. And another one. And another one. You’ve been watching Wise Words with DJ Khaled. Another one. Another one. Another one. Another one. And another one.
Craig: When you close another meeting or another deal, please start in with “another one, another one.” This is part of the confusing amazingness that is this video.
In sales, you have to be self-motivated. And if DJ Khaled can’t get you going…I don’t know who will.
There you have it. I look forward to your comments.
PS I would love it if someone can send me some DJ Khaled integrated into your day-to-day activities. I will feature it if you send me a pic.
PPS DJ Khaled got lost in the ocean on a JetSki. His quote: “The key is not to drive a jet ski in the dark”.
Over and out….
