Editor’s note: I asked Kyle Porter CEO of  to put together a “how-to” for his product SalesLoft Prospector. This company and product is getting very popular and has some big fans.

Sales reps want more leads. It consistently ranks as the number one demanded need of every sales professional. Our past two years of building software has lead us to our finest product to date: the SalesLoft Prospector. It’s unquestionably the easiest way on the internet to build accurate lists of marketing and sales leads.

We’re humbled and fortunate that Craig has found our software valuable enough to share with his community of intelligent revenue leaders on Funnelholic.

After reading this post, you’ll have the power to build high quality lists of valuable prospects like the list below in a relatively short period of time.

1

Let’s begin!

Step 1. Download the free Prospector Extension

Using the Chrome browser (the most popular and secure browser on the market),

Step 2. Run a search for the prospects you’re looking for

You can run your search in the main SalesLoft search box below, or in the Extension wizard (pictured below that). In this example, we’ll run a search for a SaaS VP in Boston.

This is the tool bar you’ll see when you log in to SalesLoft. The prospecting tool is located on the top right.

You can used an advanced search using the extension wizard, and search for titles, industry, location, and even keywords to help your accuracy.

Step 3.  Find the prospects you want and ‘Add to Prospector’

Here are LinkedIn results for your search terms as indexed by Google.  Simply, mine through the meta data of each result you want and click ‘Add to Prospector.’

The buttons on Google show you who you’ve added and what your options remaining are.

Step 4. Capture all the prospects on the page by clicking  ”Add and Next Page”

Sometimes you want to capture everything on the page. In those cases, click the “Add and Next Page” link which is located at the bottom right of the screen.

Your options will appear with three buttons and an indication of how many credits you have remaining.

Step 5. Import prospects directly from LinkedIn

You can important prospects directly from LinkedIn not just Google. Now when you log in to LinkedIn, you’ll see a blue button above each profile. With the click of that button, you’ll add the prospect to your list.

Step 6. Export from LinkedIn Groups

Almost every prospector we talk to has their eyes on a few LinkedIn groups. But it’s super hard to pull the members of those groups out. Not anymore! (Editor’s note: “Love this”) Using SalesLoft, just paste in the name of the group in quotes and go to work. You can add individuals or entire pages easily.

Here we export the “Marketing Automation Experts Group.” Simple and easy.

This LinkedIn group is private, but with a SalesLoft search using the keyword “marketing automation experts,” you’re still able to find people within the group.

Step 7. Get email addresses for your new prospects

SalesLoft captures a large percentage of the corporate emails for your prospects. It does this by creating variations of the email configuration using first, last name, corporate URL, and validating conventions on the mail server.

Step 8. Get phone numbers for your new prospects

SalesLoft automatically mines the phone number for the prospect’s company and delivers it back in the app.

Within the Prospector, you can select options you’d like to find and export them with the click of just a few buttons.

Step 9. Sync to Salesforce.com

With the click of a button you can add these records to Salesforce.com. It even checks for duplicates and allows you to see if you have anyone else from that company in your CRM.

Step 10. Export to .CSV and Google Spreadsheets.

One click and you have all this info in a spreadsheet fashion. You can upload in bulk into 1000′s of different types of applications.

Step 11. Starting engaging with your new prospects

Now you have a list of targeted and accurate prospects. The process is simple and delivers results exponentially quicker than copying and pasting individuals into a spreadsheet. With SalesLoft’s Prospector, you’ll be able to spend more time engaging your prospects rather than the boring task of list building.
